AICD congratulates Albanese Labor Government

AICD

The AICD, as the independent and trusted voice of good governance representing a membership of almost 50,000 company directors and senior business and not-for profit sector leaders, looks forward to working with the incoming Government on key governance issues. These include promoting modern, fit-for-purpose corporate and governance laws; balanced director liability settings that support accountability and transparency while promoting innovation and growth; cyber risk governance; and prevention of workplace sexual harassment.

We welcome the Government’s commitment to action and certainty around climate policy. The AICD’s latest (DSI) identified climate change as one of the top issues concerning directors. Last year the AICD launched the Australian chapter of the Climate Governance Initiative, a global network that seeks to educate and equip directors with the skills and knowledge to support effective climate governance.

We acknowledge the commitments already made by Prime Minister Albanese on reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The AICD considers reconciliation to be a national governance priority and looks forward to contributing to this important process.

The AICD acknowledges the former Morrison Government, and the commitment of former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to important reforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, including modernising corporate laws to enable virtual AGMs and electronic communication, as well as other relief measures.
