Airservices Australia releases December Australian Aviation Network Overview

Airservices Australia has released its report for December 2023.

Highlights include:

  • International flights increased by 10.5% compared to November. This was countered by a 9.8% decrease in domestic flights, reflecting seasonal business travel and general aviation trends.
  • December 22 recorded the highest daily passenger transport flights in the last four years.
  • Australia’s active aircraft fleet now surpasses pre-pandemic levels, with ongoing fleet renewal aimed at boosting capacity, operational efficiency, dispatch reliability, and environmental outcomes.
  • Intra-state flights and network connectivity in Western Australia has grown significantly since 2019, driven by airline and charter operations servicing the mining industry.
  • The operating environment for the Australian aviation sector remained challenging, but there are indications that key economic markers such as jet fuel prices and inflation are starting to stabilise. Trade and tourism, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, is continuing to influence aviation growth.

The Australian Aviation Network Overview is updated monthly.
