Albanese Government finalises ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder extension

Australian Treasury

The Albanese Government has successfully negotiated a revised ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Partnership Agreement to deliver certainty for existing ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder applicants.

Under the revised deal, which has been signed by all states and territories, the deadline for existing ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder applicants to submit supporting documentation has been extended to 30 June 2025.

This will help thousands of existing applicants access grants of up to $25,000.

It gives all existing ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder applicants another two years to finalise construction and submit all required supporting documentation.

The extension is available for all applicants, including for those with contracts for off the‑plan purchases, new builds and renovations.

Applicants do not need to do anything to access the extension – it will automatically apply.

Housing Minister Julie Collins thanked states and territories for their support of the Albanese Government’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder extension and the revised NPA.

“The extension ensures existing applicants don’t miss out due to factors outside of their control,” Minister Collins said.

“This draws a line under the former Government’s mismanaged ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder program.

“A perfect storm has led to a blow out in construction timeframes right across the country.

“This perfect storm includes the former Government’s mismanagement of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder itself.

“Existing applicants affected by these challenges will now be able to meet the requirements of the grant.”

There are no changes to any of the other eligibility criteria and the program will not reopen for new applications.

Applications for ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾Builder closed in April 2021. States and territories administer the scheme on behalf of the Commonwealth.
