Albanese Labor Government delivering more training opportunities for small businesses

The Albanese Labor Government is committed to supporting small businesses with new tailored training opportunities now available to help businesses with tax and super.

The Australian Taxation Office recently launched a new flexible and free online learning resource, Essentials to strengthen your small business.

The training website includes more than 20 short courses to help small businesses build their knowledge of tax, super, and how to grow their business.

The courses are designed for small businesses, educators and tax professionals to share and use with their staff, students and clients.

The training was co‑created with small businesses and can be customised depending on each stage of a business’s journey, structure and industry.

This is just one way the Albanese Labor Government is helping to reduce the time small businesses spend doing taxes.

Other measures include trialing an independent review for small businesses in dispute with the ATO, expanding access to free advice through the tax clinic program, and allowing longer to amend tax returns.

The Albanese Labor Government’s practical support for small business also includes:

  • Targeted energy bill relief up to $650 for around 1 million small businesses in partnership with states and territories.
  • Helping startups and small businesses to innovate, commercialise and grow their companies through the $392.4 million Industry Growth Program.
  • Supporting small businesses in their energy transition with the Small Business Energy Incentive.
  • Investing over $60 million to help small businesses uplift their cyber security and digital capabilities through the Digital Solutions program, Cyber Wardens program, Cyber Resilience Service and a cyber health check.
  • The $20,000 instant asset write‑off, which will improve cash flow and reduce compliance costs for small businesses with an annual turnover of less than $10 million, until 30 June 2024, subject to the passage of legislation.
  • Supporting small business owners’ mental health and wellbeing through access to $15.1 million in specialised support services that are free for small businesses to access.
