Albanese Labor Government helping to deliver new homes across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie

The Albanese Labor Government’s $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator is helping to deliver new homes across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, giving more Australians a place to call home.

Social Housing Accelerator funds are being used by the New South Wales (NSW) Government to construct nine new social homes in Wallsend and refurbish nine existing properties in Toronto, Windale, Gateshead, Elermore Vale and Edgeworth.

Through the Albanese Labor Government’s Social Housing Accelerator, the NSW Government has restored more than 300 properties across the state.

The Social Housing Accelerator is one part of the Federal Government’s $32 billion Homes for Australia plan.

The Albanese Labor Government has already delivered more than $610 million to NSW through the Social Housing Accelerator to deliver around 1,500 new social homes.

Applications closed earlier this year for the first round of funding for social and affordable homes under the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Housing Accord.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Housing, Julie Collins MP:

“These new homes are another example of our Government’s $32 billion Homes for Australia plan building more homes in NSW.

“Through our additional investments in housing, including the $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator and the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund, we will be building even more homes like these.

“Collaboration is critical to addressing Australia’s housing challenges and it’s great to be working in partnership with other tiers of government to build more homes in Newcastle.”

“We will keep delivering so more Australians have a safe and affordable place to call home.”

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon MP:

“I am so pleased to be part of a government that is investing in social housing in Newcastle and right across Australia.

“Building more homes means putting roofs over people’s heads and giving people the space they need to get their lives back on track.”
