Premier Mark McGowan today opened the new eastern pavilion at Albany’s Centennial Park Sporting Precinct – completing the State Government’s $7 million election commitment to revitalise the grassroots sporting hub.
The Premier cut the ribbon on the new $800,000 eastern precinct multi-sport pavilion alongside Albany MLA Peter Watson and the City of Albany.
The pavilion’s opening marks the final stage of the McGowan Government’s $7 million Centennial Park upgrades – which also included new playing fields, parking, pathways, lighting and irrigation works.
The Albany Triathlon Club, Albany Cycling Club and Southern Districts Junior Football Club will all make the new pavilion home. It features two change spaces, contemporary unisex toilets, an undercover all-weather area, kiosk and ample storage space.
Centennial Park is the major sporting hub for the Great Southern region, catering for a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports. The pavilion’s opening marks the completion of Stage 2 of the Centennial Park Eastern Precinct upgrade.
Over the last 10 years the State Government has contributed $16.75 million to help complete Stage 1 of the project.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“Two-and-a-half years ago we committed $7 million to upgrade this key regional sporting facility, and I’m delighted to be here today as we cut the ribbon on the final stage of the project.
“My Government knows how much of an integral role sport plays in country life and we are always proud to support quality, inclusive community facilities like this.
“The development of this precinct has been driven locally by the City and Peter Watson over many years and we thank all involved, including local clubs and volunteers, in driving this forward.
“I’m particularly proud that this project was delivered by a local builder, a local architect, and local contractors – in line with the State Government’s commitment to support local jobs in country areas.”

“The Centennial Park Sporting Precinct has transformed sporting facilities in Albany by delivering the best sporting infrastructure in the Great Southern.
“It’s benefited club volunteers, players, spectators and delivered a boost to our economy by providing local jobs and business for local contractors and suppliers.”
