Albany schools will receive nearly $2.7 million for important maintenance, as part of the McGowan Government’s $200 million job-creating school maintenance blitz.
Premier Mark McGowan and Member for Albany Peter Watson today visited North Albany Senior High School, Albany Secondary Support Centre and Yakamia Primary School – three local schools that will benefit from the package.
The $2.67 million for schools in the Albany electorate includes:
- Albany Primary School – $109,599 for structural upgrades, maintenance upgrades
- Albany Secondary Education Support Centre – $31,200 for maintenance upgrades
- Albany Senior High School – $1,022,970 for roof safety, electrical upgrades, structural upgrades, traffic management, and toilet upgrades
- Bremer Bay Primary School – $40,860 for structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Flinders Park Primary School – $74,373 for structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Gairdner Primary School – $34,138 for structural work upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Jerramungup District High School – $426,047 for roof replacements, electrical upgrades, and structural upgrades
- Little Grove Primary School – $46,035 for structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Mount Lockyer Primary School – $72,904 for structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Mount Manypeaks Primary School – $31,200 for maintenance upgrades
- North Albany Senior High School – $103,665 for electrical upgrades, structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- South Stirling Primary School – $211,594 for playing surfaces (resurfacing), structural upgrades and maintenance upgrades
- Spencer Park Education Support Centre – $31,200 for maintenance upgrades
- Spencer Park Primary School – $168,929 for car park resurfacing, electrical upgrades and structural upgrades
- Wellstead Primary School – $204,704 for playing surfaces (resurfacing), electrical upgrades and structural upgrades
- Yakamia Primary School – $62,400 for maintenance upgrades
The maintenance boost comes on top of the McGowan Government’s election commitments in Albany, including $9.8 million for upgrades to the Albany Secondary Education Support Centre and North Albany Senior High School; $3 million upgrade to Mount Lockyer Primary School; and $2.5 million to replace transportable classrooms at Flinders Park Primary School.
Every Western Australian public school will benefit from the $200 million maintenance blitz, which will commence immediately and create 3,150 jobs across the State, including 1,260 in regional WA.
Under the McGowan Government’s ‘Direct to Market’ framework, local schools have the ability to engage local contractors directly, without unnecessary red tape.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“Our major school maintenance blitz will benefit each public school across the State, including several in Albany.
“We have the flexibility to deliver this program of works because we got the finances back on track and the Budget back to surplus.
“It’s crucial we continue to invest in local schools to make sure facilities remain at the highest standard for our kids.”
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“Many Albany schools will benefit from one of the biggest ever investments in WA schools.
“This all about improving school facilities to create the best possible learning environment for students and teachers. A range of upgrades are taking place at Albany schools, which make a big difference in these facilities.
“It will also create thousands of WA jobs in important trades like electricians, painters and carpenters.”

“This is another example of the McGowan Government’s strong investment in schools in Albany – the $2.7 million investment will go a long way to addressing maintenance issues at many schools in the electorate.
“Albany schools will share in a range of upgrades including structural upgrades, electrical work, roof replacements and upgrades to playing surfaces.
“These upgrades will make a big difference to students and staff and I look forward to seeing the work getting under way as soon as possible.”
