- Cook Labor Government contributing more than $2.8 million to deliver enhanced facilities
The expansion and redevelopment of the Albany Surf Life Saving Club is on track for completion before the end of summer.
The Cook Government has contributed more than $2.8 million to the infrastructure upgrade, which will enhance the club’s ability to respond to emergencies with improved water safety operations.
The project will also deliver more welcoming facilities with spaces for training, education, and events, ensuring the whole community will benefit from the redevelopment year-round.
The construction contract was awarded to Smith Constructions, and the City of Albany has been managing the project on behalf of the State Government.
The City of Albany and the Albany Surf Life Saving Club also contributed funding to the redevelopment project.
The project is scheduled for completion in January 2025, with the club expected to be fully reinstated in their new home by the end of March 2025.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“The Albany Surf Life Saving Club has been a fixture of Middleton Beach for decades, and these upgrades will ensure it continues to serve the people of the Great Southern for years to come.
“My Government’s $2.8 million investment will help to enhance vital life saving services, training facilities and event spaces, benefitting the entire community.
“The upgraded club is looking great and will soon be in full use again thanks to our commitment to funding community infrastructure projects for regional Western Australia.”
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
“Congratulations to all the members and dedicated volunteers at the Albany Surf Life Saving Club who have raised funds and advocated for the redevelopment of this important local facility.
“Sporting clubs and groups are integral to the fabric of regional communities, and our thanks also go to The City of Albany for managing this much-needed infrastructure project.
“Our Government’s support for this redevelopment has provided an enhanced facility that will benefit the Great Southern community for many years to come.”
As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:
“These upgrades are a major win for the more than 500 surf club members who give up their time to keep the local community safe.
“As a lifelong member myself, I can’t wait to use the upgraded facilities when they’re completed in January.”
