Albury’s second Changing Places facility gets tick of approval

AlburyCity Councillors have endorsed awarding a contract for the construction of new Public Toilets at Hovell Tree Park in Albury. It will include the city’s second Changing Places facility, following the opening of the toilets at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Foresters Grove earlier this week.

AlburyCity’s Public Toilet Strategy 2020-2030 outlines the vision to ensure that we provide an accessible, sustainable, safe, and clean public toilet network that meets the current and future needs of our growing community.

The Strategy outlined and prioritised a standalone public toilet upgrade and replacement program for public toilets at prominent locations within the city. Hovell Tree Park was identified as a location for upgraded facilities with the inclusion of an Adult Changing Places facility, with the new building to be located adjacent to the Wood Fired Pizza Oven and public car park on Precinct Place.

The new facility will include The new Public Toilets will also include six gender neutral toilets, one all abilities toilet with adult and child toilets and baby change table, and a toilet.

Changing Places toilets are larger than standard accessible toilets, providing people with disability and high support needs access to suitable, safe, and private bathroom facilities.

The facilities include a height-adjustable adult-sized change table, a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system, a centrally-located peninsula toilet, additional circulation space than standard accessible toilets, an automatic door with a clear opening of 950mm at a minimum, and a privacy screen.

Changing Places toilets can be accessed using a (MLAK), which grants users entry 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Mayor Kylie King said she hopes this second Changing Places toilet will open doors for those in our community with disability.

“Having Changing Places facilities available at mutiple locations in our city gives people with disability the opportunity to be out and about in our popular public spaces, without the fear of not having access to a suitable toilet,” said Mayor King.

Construction on the new Public Toilets at Hovell Tree Park is expected to be completed early 2024.
