The NSW Government is set to extend its alfresco dining scheme to Darling Harbour in another win for venues and the live entertainment industry in NSW.
Last month the NSW Government slashed red tape to allow 19 pubs, cafes and restaurants in The Rocks to expand onto footpaths and public spaces so extra customers can enjoy their summer in the sun.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said the pilot scheme will be extended to Darling Harbour allowing even more people and businesses to enjoy outdoor dining.
“The opening weekend in The Rocks was a tremendous success with visitation numbers 55 per cent higher compared to an average weekend between July and September,” Mr Dominello said.
“This is all about making it easier for businesses to get more patrons through the door in a COVID-safe way.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the pilot scheme cuts a three-month process into one application that can be approved in a week.
“This scheme cuts red tape to give local business the support they need to recover from the global pandemic,” Mr Stokes said.
“With more than 20 venues already on board, Darling Harbour will continue to be an exciting place for Sydneysiders and visitors this summer.”
The scheme will go live on 13 November in Darling Harbour and allows business to have one person per two square metres if they are registered as COVID Safe and using digital mediums such as QR codes to check customers in.
