Allambie Lane Road Upgrade massive win for Upper Ross

Council crews have completed a $3 million upgrade on Allambie Lane in the Upper Ross, making the area safer for all users in the area.

The works involved widening the road and installing hard medians, delineated school/PCYC/shopping centre/access points, dedicated turning lanes, a raised pedestrian crossing, new and upgraded roadway lighting, dedicated bike lanes and concrete pathways.

The Allambie Lane Road Upgrade was funded and delivered by Council, assisted by a $1.19 million contribution from the Queensland Government’s Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS).

These works were completed in December, as part of 1,830 kms of local suburban roads across the city that Council maintains.

Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the project had increased safety for both road users and pedestrians in the area.

“Council has worked hand in hand with the state government and the outcome for the community has been improved traffic safety and connectivity along Allambie Lane,” he said.

“The Allambie Lane Road Upgrade, from Riverway Drive to Saltbush Boulevard, improves access and ensures the road caters to the growing community.

“We have a number of schools in that area as well as the PCYC, kindergartens and Riverway Plaza so it’s fantastic we’ve been able to invest in the Upper Ross and help make it as safe as possible.”

Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor Mark Molachino was delighted with the outcome for the Upper Ross Community.

“In previous years we added a pedestrian pathway on the southern side of Allambie Lane and these latest works make the area even safer for families and children,” Cr Molachino said.

“As the Upper Ross continues to grow we need to ensure we have appropriate safe infrastructure, especially during congested periods around our schools.

“These works help alleviate traffic pressure all the way down to Saltbush Avenue, which makes the area that much safer for anyone coming into or from the PCYC, community centre and Rasmussen and Good Shephard schools.”

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper welcomed the completion of the project.

“The Upper Ross is continuing to grow so this work is important for residents in the area,” Mr Harper said.

“I’m proud to work together with Townsville City Council to deliver vital infrastructure projects like this along with the replacement of the water pipeline from Ross River Dam to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant.”
