A man will face court today after being charged with serious traffic offences detected after he allegedly drove through a red-light in the Eastern Suburbs this morning.
About 6.30am today (Friday 21 February 2020) Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers from Eastern Suburbs observed a Toyota Corolla not stop for a red traffic signal on Anzac Parade, Kensington.
Police stopped the vehicle in Doncaster Road, and spoke with the 38-year-old male driver, who advised officers he was currently disqualified from driving.
Checks of the man’s licence revealed that he had completed a period of disqualification, but his P2 Provisional driver licence expired in August 2018.
An examination of the vehicle and checks of the registration revealed displayed number plates to not be recognised on the registration system. The vehicle was identified through the VIN number in the engine bay, revealing it was unregistered.
Officers also examined the number plates, which had been be altered to appear as different letters, while the actual plates were from another Toyota and listed as stolen in January 2020.
The Ermington man has been charged with seven offences including goods in custody, unlawfully possess number plates, drive with altered number plates, unregistered vehicle offences, expired driver licence – 2nd offence, and a red-light offence.
He has been refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today.
Police will allege in court that this is the 12th occasion the man has been charged with similar traffic offences.
