Alpaca yarn for ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Simultaneous Storytime

The hilarious tale of alpaca duo Macca and Al will take centre stage when Armidale Regional Council libraries host ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Simultaneous Storytime this Wednesday morning.

Council Chief Executive Officer Susan Law will channel Macca and Al – and their talent contest performance – when she reads Alpacas with Maracas as guest story reader at the Guyra library.

“Simultaneous Story Time is such a wonderful promotion to get children excited about reading and boost literacy,” Ms Law said.

“It’s fantastic to see so many children gathered at their local libraries for this event, including the many youngsters who have filled the Guyra libraries in previous years.

“Amid the day-to-day challenges of heading a local government, this will be a lovely opportunity to deliver a fun story that everyone will like to hear,” she said.

“There will be a little pressure to maintain the high standard of the libraries previous Simultaneous Storytime guest readers.”

The annual ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Simultaneous Storytime was launched 19 years ago by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores themes and key learning areas for students in Foundation to Year 6.

Each year, a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

This year’s Guyra Library event will begin at 10.45am and children who bring an alpaca mask will be in the running to win a prize.

Activities at the Armidale Library begin with morning tea from 10.30am, followed by story time at 11am and alpaca craft time.
