Amendments to marine farming development plans now in place

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Liberal Government continues to back our world-class sustainable aquaculture industry with standardised Marine Farming Management controls now in place for all marine farming development plans across Tasmania.

Identified as a priority action in the Tasmanian Salmon Industry Plan 2023, these changes will ensure consistency across all plans and enhance certainty for both industry and the community.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said the Tasmanian Government is continuing to back Tasmania’s aquaculture industry and the thousands of jobs it supports through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“Along with the development of Biosecurity Standards and Environmental Standards, standardised controls were identified as a priority action in the Tasmanian Salmon Industry Plan 2023,” Minister Abetz said.

“We’re continuing to remove red tape, improve regulation efficiency and ensure our adaptive management framework continues to evolve and remain at the front of the pack globally.”

These amendments are evidence of the adaptive management framework in action, with updated management controls added to the Macquarie Harbour Marine Farming Development Plan.

“This is about ensuring ease of doing business, community confidence and supporting jobs. The proposed amendments were subject to public consultation and considered by the independent Marine Farming Planning Review Panel.”
