Wyndham City held its quarterly blitz on litter and other amenity issues, with a focus on Wollahra Rise, Wyndham Vale this month.
Council staff addressed issues relating to litter, dumped rubbish, fire prevention and local laws. There were over 100 cases discovered on the day with many of them addressed at the time:
- 34 dumped hard waste and littering sites
- 30 unsightly properties
- 22 abandoned shopping trolleys
- 18 bin management issues
- 17 obstructions on council land
- 14 sites cleaned
- 9 issues at vacant lands
- 6 illegal parking issues
- 6 abandoned (unregistered) vehicles.
- 11 building site issue.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Susan McIntyre said the blitz was much needed.
“There is no need to dump in our City when hard and green waste collections are available to our residents and tip vouchers are also available,” she said.
“We understand that new residents may not always be aware of what is expected to keep their properties tidy and within compliance of our updated local law.”
“These blitzes offer the opportunity for us to door knock and explain issues relating to bin contamination and bin presentation when residents are home and to follow up later on – we were also able to speak to building site supervisors to raise issues of concern such as fallen down fencing and unsightly properties.”
“Keeping our City clean and liveable is the responsibility of everyone.”
Clean up blitzes have been held in Point Cook, Tarneit West, Hoppers Crossing and Wyndham Vale in 2023.
