An open letter from
Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus
Christmas truly is a wonderful time of the year.
It is the time we head out to end-of-year parties with colleagues, share stories around a barbecue with our mates and most importantly, spend time with our families and those we love.
It is a time of the year when many of us use our vast road network, travelling long distances to share these experiences.
We have put a huge amount of effort into telling stories and showing the consequences of poor decisions on our roads.
I want to express my thanks to those who listen and take time to think about their attitude before they get in the car. Thank you for improving your driving habits and making Queensland’s roads safer for all of us.
You are the ones who are saving lives on our roads.
It’s your positive attitude, your decision to slow down, put your phone away or have one less beer that makes our roads safer for everyone.
Christmas is also a time of the year where we remember those lives that have been taken from us while on our roads.
There will be parties without colleagues, barbecues without a mate and families sharing Christmas lunch with an empty seat at the table.
It is my commitment to you that over the next few weeks, police will be out on our roads. You can expect to see them anywhere, at any time.
In return, I ask for a commitment from you to drive safely, make better decisions and also encourage those around you to make smarter choices.
I don’t want my officers arriving at the door, hats in hand, for your family’s Christmas celebration instead of you.
Thank you once again for your continued efforts in making our roads a safer place.
I wish you a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
