A $2.85 million upgrade to the Anakie Recreation Reserve is now complete, providing new social rooms and facilities for users of the sporting fields and the entire community.
The new facility includes a large club and social room, a kitchen, gym, cool room, unisex accessible amenities, a timekeepers’ space and administration office.
The single-storey pavilion, which replaced the existing social rooms, was built next to the stand-alone change rooms constructed as part of stage one of the facility’s redevelopment in 2017.
Committed in the 2022-23 budget, 100 per cent of the $2.85 million funding for the social rooms redevelopment was provided by Council.
The new social rooms were officially opened on Thursday 3 August 2023 by Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken, Councillor Sarah Hathway and Anakie Football & Netball Club President Heath Menhennet.
Mayor Trent Sullivan:
It’s fantastic this multi-purpose facility at Anakie Recreation Reserve is now complete. I know it will meet the needs of tenant clubs for years to come.
I’m proud to say Council put its full support behind the project, providing the entire $2.85 million in funding.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken:
The reserve has a long history as the home to the Anakie Football & Netball Club for nearly 100 years.
This commitment by council to a complete replacement of the social rooms was an investment in the grassroots health and wellbeing of the Anakie community, one of the many unique rural community townships we love so much in Geelong.
Heath Menhennet:
Let this facility be a testament to the indomitable spirit that resides within, proving that no dream is too small when nurtured with passion and perseverance.
Today, we mark a new chapter in our history, and we do so with hearts brimming with excitement and gratitude for the joy this haven shall bring to us all.
