Andrews’ record debt hits frontline Victorian services

Liberal Party Victoria

Frontline Victorian health, education and community services will continue to suffer as new analysis confirms the Andrews Government’s total debt is set to reach $226 billion by 2026-27.

Under questioning today in State Parliament, Treasurer Tim Pallas and Education Minster Natalie Hutchins failed to explain why more taxpayer money will be spent servicing Victoria’s record debt than on ambulance services or primary and secondary education over coming years.

Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “Victorian taxpayers, families and small businesses continue to be punished for the incompetence of the Andrews Government.

“Under the Andrews Government, Victoria is broke and despite new taxes on rent, schools and jobs – Labor’s record debt continues to grow.

“Every dollar wasted on servicing Labor’s record debt is one less for critical health, education, infrastructure and community services and one more future generations will need to pay back.

“With an interest bill set to eclipse Victoria’s annual education and ambulance services budgets, it’s clear Labor’s record debt will have real world consequences for Victorian families, communities and small businesses across the state.”
