Annual grants open for all artistic projects

The City of Melbourne is seeking the next wave of exciting artists keen to take advantage of its Annual Arts Grants program.

Celebrating and supporting our creative community, the Annual Arts Grants Program is offering up to $20,000 in funding for projects taking place in 2020.

Chair of the Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio, Councillor Rohan Leppert, said applications are open to artists, creatives and arts organisations across all disciplines and to people from all backgrounds and abilities.

“Whether you compose, sculpt, dance, write, perform, film or produce, we want to see your application and hear about your project,” Cr Leppert said.

“The creative community is the lifeblood of our city, filling our streets, theatres and galleries with colour and entertainment. Our Annual Arts Grants program offers an opportunity for both new and experienced creatives to get involved.”

Grant applications are divided into three categories: Arts projects, Aboriginal arts projects and Arts residences. For the first time, Aboriginal arts projects taking place over two years will also be considered.

Applicants can be located anywhere, but the project must result in a public outcome within the City of Melbourne municipality to be considered eligible.

A series of free information sessions and grant writing workshops will be run throughout May and June to assist applicants. Spots are limited, so applicants are encouraged to book early. All applications will be considered by an independent external assessment panel.

Cr Leppert said Council is committed to supporting experimentation, innovation and creativity in all forms.

“Our Annual Arts Grants program is one way we’re investing in the creativity of our community,” Cr Leppert said.

“Melbourne has a global reputation as a creative city and we’re keen to build upon this reputation to ensure our city continues to prosper.”

Applications for the 2020 Annual Arts Grants program are open from the 24 May until the 24 June.
