The Household Chemical Clean Out is a free service for residents to safely disposal of household chemicals.
This year the Household Chemical Clean Out will be held on Sunday, 3 September 2023 from 9am-12pm.
Please note, the Household Chemical Clean Out now has a new location at the Resource Recovery Centre, within the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility, at 68 Geordie Street, Lithgow.
The following household chemicals and items are accepted in household quantities:
- Acids and alkalis
- Ammonia-based cleaners
- Cooking oils
- Floor care products
- household cleaners & solvents
- Pesticides, herbicides & poisons
- Pool chemicals & hobby chemicals
- Motor fuels and oils
- Car & household batteries
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
- Smoke detectors
- Paint and paint-related products
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
Household quantities are a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of a single item, except for paint of which 100 litres will be accepted in 20 litre containers.
Common household problems wastes, including fluorescent lights, smoke detectors, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, batteries and oils, can now be taken to your local throughout the year.
Liquids, chemicals, poisons and cleaners that are not accepted at the Community Recycling Centre are collected at the Household Chemical Clean Out event.
