If the Liberal Government was serious about worker safety and supporting industry they would dump their flawed anti-protest laws and start again.
Shadow Minister for Workplace Relations Sarah Lovell said Labor had opposed every iteration of the bill and opposed the draft legislation.
“Labor is committed to supporting Tasmanian workers and not playing politics,” Ms Lovell said.
“This bill is all about politics.
“Labor would never support laws that infringe on the rights of workers to carry out industrial action safely in their workplace, industry or community.
“Workplace safety is critical – so the Minister should stop playing politics and listen to what many are telling him.
“We don’t condone extreme measures that put worker and community safety at risk.
“Everyone has the right to go to work and be safe, and Labor has always supported both workers and industry.
“The final bill is yet to be tabled, but our concerns with previous iterations were quite clear.
“It is clear these laws are more about politics than actually protecting workers.
“We don’t support a stand-alone piece of legislation and encourage the government to look at other avenues, consistent with our long-held position.”
