ANZ today announced it will support the delivery of the New Melton Hospital Project by providing sustainable loan financing to help transform healthcare for communities in Melbourne’s outer west.
The hospital will reduce travel times for patients, and alleviate demand on other Melbourne hospitals. It will also be Victoria’s first all-electric hospital, making it possible to power the site with renewable energy.
Once completed, the public hospital will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients annually, with a 24-hour emergency department, an intensive care unit, radiology services, mental health services, maternity and neonatal services, and outpatient care.
ANZ Managing Director, Corporate Finance, Christina Tonkin said: “This project will support the health and wellbeing of communities in Melbourne’s outer west, making quality healthcare easier to access and ease pressure on other western and inner-Melbourne hospitals.”
“This deal strengthens ANZ’s relationships in the infrastructure sector, including with Capella Capital, and builds on our reputation as a leading provider of sustainability finance.”
The project is expected to create more than 2,400 jobs during construction, as well as more than 3,975 health-related jobs in the hospital’s first year of operation.
ANZ will provide sustainable project financing for the Capella Capital-led Exemplar Health consortium, to fund the design, construction and maintenance of NMH.
The project has been procured by the Victorian Government, in partnership with Western Health (as the clinical services provider and hospital operator), as an availability-based PPP with a 25-year operational concession granted to the Exemplar Health consortium.
Capella Capital led Exemplar Health consortiums are well credentialed in the delivery of large public hospitals in Australia, having successfully delivered the New Bendigo Hospital, Sunshine Coast University Hospital projects, and is currently delivering the Frankston Hospital Redevelopment Project – all of which ANZ has supported.
Capella Capital Director, Sarah Neaves, said: “Capella Capital is delighted to have reached this milestone. This project is a truly transformative project for Melbourne’s outer west. It will ensure communities in Melbourne’s west can access health services close to their homes.
“We look forward to working in partnership with the State Government, Western Health and our partners in making this project a reality.”
