Communities across the Western Downs will come together this Anzac Day to pay tribute to the brave service men and women who have served and sacrificed in defence of our nation’s values and freedom.

Western Downs Regional Council, in collaboration with local RSL sub-branches and community organisations, will host commemorative events throughout the Western Downs on Thursday, 25th April 2024.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said honouring the sacrifices made by our service people, during both war and peacetime, holds great significance, and invited residents and visitors to join together and participate in Anzac Day events taking place throughout our region.

“Anzac Day commemorations provide a chance to honour and express gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices made by our fellow Australians, as well as to demonstrate solidarity with our communities and individuals who have or had family members serve our beautiful country.” Mr Smith said.

“Residents wishing to make a personal gesture of thanks will be able to honour the fallen by placing a wreath or poppy at any of the many commemorative services around the Western Downs, organised by our dedicated local RSL sub-branches.

“We are privileged to live in such a beautiful country, so dedicating this single day to pause and offer tribute is a collective gesture we can make to express gratitude to those who have helped ensure Australia remains the wonderful, free land that we all love.

“Council is proud to back the efforts of all local RSL sub-branches and community organisations that contribute to hosting these services throughout the Western Downs every year, and we thank them for their generous dedication of time and effort in organising and coordinating our Anzac Day services once again this year.
