Beginning Monday 30 October, Council will be removing the main playground component at Apex Park in Byron Bay. The removal is expected to take around two weeks and some sections of the park are closed while this is being completed.

The playground, which was installed in 2007, has developed significant faults and the equipment cannot be repaired for a reasonable cost. The existing swings and spring toys will remain in place for now.

“We know this is a favourite spot for our community and visitors, and the removal of the playground is disappointing for a lot of us, unfortunately it is no longer safe to use,” said Mayor Michael Lyon.

“In early 2024, we are kicking off a redesign process for the Byron foreshore and will be looking for input from the community about the size and style of the playground that will replace it, and where they would like it placed,” he said.

For parents looking for another play area, nearby parks are located at Dening Park, Byron Recreation Grounds, and Railway Park, or you can take children for a roll or ride at recently opened Jarjumirr Park – Byron Bay Skate Park.
