Police are appealing for assistance following a reported child approach in Sydney’s east over the weekend.
About 6.25pm yesterday (Sunday 19 August 2024), a four-year-old girl was outside a store in a shopping centre on Bunnerong Road, Eastgardens, when she was approached by an unknown woman, who picked her up and carried her to another shop, before the woman was intercepted by the child’s mother.
The woman then walked away from the child and her mother, who called police.
Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As inquiries continue, police have released an image of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The woman is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance with short black hair.
She was seen wearing a red headband, a black jacket, black pants and a multi-coloured shoulder bag.
