Appeal after random stabbing – Merrylands

Police are appealing for public assistance as they investigate an apparent random stabbing in Sydney’s west earlier this year.

About 2.40pm on Friday (27 October 2023), emergency services were called to a shopping centre on McFarlane Street, Merrylands, following reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command located a 35-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso.

Police were told that the man was sitting in the food court area when he was approached by man who produced a knife and stabbed him before fleeing.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released.

Police established a crime scene and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, detectives have now released CCTV footage of two men who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

Both men depicted are described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance and aged approximately in their late teens to early 20s.

At the time, one man was wearing a black hooded jacket with a white motif on the left side of the chest, black pants and shoes with carrying a black bag.

The other man has a black beard and long black hair tied in a ponytail, and was wearing a blue hooded jumper, black tracksuit pants and black shoes.
