Campaspe Shire Council is now accepting, and starting the processing of, Permits to Burn applications in advance of the safe burn period being advised.
Local government processes Permits to Burn applications on behalf of the CFA and once the fire danger period is declared each year, the lighting of fires is prohibited unless authorised by the issue of a permit.
Regulatory & Community Services General Manager, Mr Paul McKenzie, said landowners have three options for permits. Apply through the Country Fire Authority (CFA) at no cost, apply through Council at a cost of $70, or wait until the fire danger period is over.
“While Council will accept and start the processing of applications, no permit will be issued until the CFA confirms that burning can occur,” Mc McKenzie said.
“Opening up applications now, allows for the processing to start, including any onsite inspection that may be required.”
