Territorystudents are invited to apply for a place in two immersive study tours, beingoffered by the Northern Territory Government.
Thestudy tours educate young Territorians about the crucial role of our defenceforce in Australias history, the importance of current Australian DefenceForce peace-keeping missions and create awareness of the continuingsignificance of military commemorations
2019 Peace in the Pacific Study Tour
TheStudy Tour will promote the significance of Australias enduring relationshipwith the United States of America and the Northern Territory Governments commitmentto Defence and Defence support initiatives
Understandingthe shared experience and sacrifice of the people in the Northern Territory andHawaii is another element of the program.
Threestudents, one teacher and one Australian Defence Force chaperone will beselected to participate in the Study Tour which includes visits to militarysites, the Pearl Harbor ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Memorial and USS Arizona, the Bishop Museum;Iolani Palace and a local high school where they will interact with Hawaiianstudents. Tour dates are currently beingfinalised, and will align with the Pearl Harbor commemorations on 7 December2019.
Theparticipants will keep a digital diary to be shared on multimedia channels andon their return, share their experiences and learnings with fellow students,teachers and members of the community.
Toenter, Territory students in Years 10 and 11 are invited to submit a responseto the following question: Australia,Japan and the United States: How didthe peace process contribute to the spirit of friendship and cooperationbetween the three countries after WWII?
Students may respond to the question by essay, poem, song,video, music, artwork or digital media.
Entriesclose at COB 26 July 2019. Successfulapplicants will be announced in September 2019.
TheNT Government will provide support for travel and accommodation costs.
