Young people aged 12 to 24 who call our region home are being urged to join Mildura Rural City Council’s FReeZA Committee.
The Committee – which is part of a Victorian Government-funded initiative – will provide members with a chance to lead, plan and stage events for young people in their community.
As a member of the FReeZA Committee, you will design and deliver music events, dance parties and cultural events that provide a platform to elevate and celebrate emerging young artists.
Being a member of the FReeZA Committee you will have the opportunity to:
• Learn from industry experts about designing and planning events.
• Develop skills in event design and delivery, promotion, graphic design, artist booking and liaison, leadership, group facilitation, audio visual and sound production, set design and more.
• Attend free training.
• Meet like-minded young people.
• Develop communication and public speaking skills.
• Grow leadership and advocacy skills.
• Gain confidence working in a team.
• Gain volunteering experience.
Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Troy Bailey encouraged those interested to sign up and make a difference in their community.
“Our community is extremely fortunate to boast some wonderful young people, and the FReeZA Committee is a great opportunity for them to get involved and help lead the development of events that interest young people in Sunraysia,” he said.
“As our community continues to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that young people have opportunities to engage in the activities and programs that mean something to them, when and where they want.
“If you’re a young person looking for a challenge and a chance to grow, then this is the opportunity for you.”
Mayor Cr Liam Wood said programs like the FReeZA Committee also help uncover our region’s future leaders.
“While a great opportunity to grow and develop new skills, these programs also help shape our future leaders and provide that first step into a broader world of community service,” he said.
“We need more young people in leadership positions. They provide drive and fresh ideas.
“More importantly, they’ll become our future decision-makers, so the more opportunities for skill development the better.”
Applications for the 2022 FReeZA Committee are open online at and will close at 5pm on Friday 5 August.
