A twice-yearly targeted recruitment drive to bolster Western Australia’s frontline health services is now open, with ‘GradConnect’ the State Government’s online recruitment process for newly qualified nurses and midwives in WA.
The particular WA Health initiative provides newly qualified nurses and midwives with an ‘on-the-job’ transition to clinical practice experience.
The recruitment process enables candidates to apply for job opportunities across all participating public, private and aged care providers in WA with just one application.
Throughout the six-month program, graduates will receive ongoing mentoring by senior nurse educators, arming them with the tools to become a confident healthcare practitioner.
Program participants also work in a variety of clinical settings to ensure they gain a range of experience, consolidating skills and knowledge gained as part of their undergraduate studies.
Over the past 10 years, graduate positions offered in WA have increased by 78 per cent with 814 nurses and midwives accepting a graduate position in 2012 compared to 1,449 graduate positions offered in 2022.
More than 1,130 graduates were offered a position in a public metropolitan healthcare facility while 200 graduates were offered rural and regional places.
Applications to the current GradConnect drive are set to close at 1pm on 7 March 2023.
