I am pleased to announce that the Government has appointed a new Deputy Chair and a new member to the Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Commission (ACNC) Advisory Board.
The Advisory Board supports the ACNC Commissioner by providing sector‑specific advice relating to charities.
Ms Sara Harrup has been appointed as the part‑time Deputy Chair (and member) in recognition of the contributions she has made as a member since 1 August 2023. Her appointment as Deputy Chair will commence on 2 August 2024 and continue through to 1 August 2026.
I also welcome Mr Nick Maisey as a part‑time member. Mr Maisey is the founder of Befriend, a vibrant community building non‑profit, established in Western Australia in 2010 to address isolation and loneliness by facilitating social connection. Mr Maisey brings experience in social entrepreneurship, youth advocacy, social justice and inclusivity, and has been appointed for a period of three years.
I would also like to thank outgoing Deputy Chair, Ms Heather Watson, for her contributions to the Advisory Board over the past seven years, notably her contributions as the independent Chair of the ACNC’s Performance Audit and Risk Committee.
These appointments will strengthen the pool of skills, experience and capabilities available to the ACNC Advisory Board which the ACNC Commissioner may draw on to support and sustain a vibrant, transparent, well‑governed and innovative charity sector.
