APS secures funding to offer free supervisor training to psychologists

Australian Psychological Society

Dear members,

I’m thrilled to share news that APS has secured funding from the Department of Health and Aged Care to offer 200 Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) approved supervisor training sessions for eligible psychologists.

APS Advocacy

APS has been consistently advocating to improve the mental health and wellbeing of our communities through strengthening the psychology workforce, so this is a huge success in our efforts to continuously uplift the psychology profession.

This win will also benefit the wider community, as a boost in supervision sessions will have positive ripple effects across the entire industry, building the capability of the psychology workforce, helping psychologists provide even more effective care to Australians.

What this means for psychologists

We hope that these government-funded training positions will encourage psychologists, both APS members and non-APS members, to take their first steps to learn the skills of an effective and supportive supervisor – a role thats importance cannot be overstated.

However, we’ve also reserved 50 positions for existing supervisors who need to undertake a refresher masterclass in order to maintain their current PsyBA-approved registered supervisor status (refresher training is required every five years).

As one of only 15 approved training providers in the country, we are proud to be able to offer this important training free of charge and see this as an important step in ensuring that Australia’s mental health resilience remains a key priority for our nation’s leaders.

If you’re interested in applying for one of these free training spots, applications are open now until spots are filled. You have up to June 2025 to complete the training.

I encourage you to take up this opportunity quickly, so you don’t miss out.

Apply for a free master class training place if you are an existing supervisor.

Apply for a free full training place to become a new supervisor.
