Aquadome refurbishment planned – East Gippsland

Aquadome

The Lakes Entrance Aquadome is set for a facelift.

East Gippsland Shire Council is taking the opportunity to upgrade the 24-year-old facility with a range of works planned to improve the amenity and useability for all patrons. However, a short-term partial closure of the aquatic area and changerooms is required for six weeks, from April 23 to June 7. Toilet facilities will remain available.

Council’s Director Development Paul Holton said multiple projects will be undertaken across the aquatic area during this time and that by programming these works together it will reduce the need for any future long-term disruptions.

“Works will include fitting new roofing insulation, updating the spas, new flooring in the pool concourse, new seating and bright picture displays, repainting of pool hall, changeroom improvements including dividers between all showers, and air ducting and carpark improvements,” Mr Holton said.

The health club, fitness classes, creche, reception and café will all remain open during the works, and children’s programs such as Mighty Kids (Monday at 4pm, children aged 4–8 years) and Mighty Tots (Wednesday at 10.30am, children aged 2–4 years) will continue.

Closure dates:

  • Spa area: 8pm Monday, April 22 to 9am Saturday, June 8

  • Aquatic area: 6pm Sunday, April 28 to 9am Saturday, June 8

“There will be no swimming lessons for the first seven weeks of term two and direct debit payments will be placed on hold until lessons resume in week eight. Lessons will commence on Tuesday, June 11 for a three-week term,” Mr Holton said.

“The Aquadome will be offering a two-week holiday intensive program during the July school holidays. Any students previously enrolled in term one can enroll in the holiday program and receive 20 per cent off the price.

“If you would like to keep your child in swimming lessons during our closure please contact the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre to enroll your child for term two.”

All Lakes Entrance Aquadome wet/aquatic memberships will be suspended during the closure and members on term-based contracts will have their expiry date extended. Those on direct debit will pay a reduced pro-rata amount on the debit before and after the closure. All Aquadome wet/aquatic members will be able to utilise their membership at the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre at no cost during the closure. Gold and off-peak memberships will be reduced in price for six weeks.

Mr Holton said all members, swimming lesson participants, local user groups and schools have been notified of the partial closure.
