ARC Discovery and Linkage Project funding announced

The Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan has announced the outcomes for the Australian Research Council Linkage Projects for funding starting 2020 and Discovery Projects for funding starting in 2021.

QUT has been awarded $1,200,955 for three ARC Linkage Projects and $4,917,549 for 13 Discovery projects.

The Linkage Projects promote research partnerships between researchers, business, industry community organisations and other publicly funded research agencies.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil said the grants were testament to the hard work and dedication of the researchers in their fields and the support of their collaborators and industry partners.

“These Australian Research Council grants are very hard fought for and there is a lot of competition for them, so to have so many awarded to QUT and our researchers is something I am very proud of,” Professor Sheil said.

A number of the successful projects will be hosted in recently established University research centres.

QUT Linkage Projects:

  • Science and Engineering Faculty Dr Michael Cholette and Emeritus Professor Lin Ma for condition-based maintenance optimisation for Queensland’s railways: $302,000
  • Science and Engineering Faculty Associate Professor Azharul Karim and Professor Yuantong Gu for novel multilevel modelling framework to design advanced food drying process: $310,000
  • Science and Engineering Faculty Distinguished Professor Kerrie Mengersen, Dr Susanna Cramb, Dr Belinda Spratt and Associate Professor Helen Thompson for statistical methods for quantifying variation in spatiotemporal areal data: $588,955
