Modern upgrades for Balga Senior High School are one step closer, with The Architecture Group appointed to design the new facilities.
The $6.3 million upgrade includes a new performing arts facility and refurbished STEM classroom.
The performing arts building will have a theatre, green room, servery and box office, staff study and associated stores and toilet facilities for staff, students and guests.
An existing classroom will be refurbished to provide an additional STEM facility with a lab, resources storage and 3D printer room.
The new facilities are expected to be ready to open in late 2024.
Balga Senior High School has more than 550 students from Year 7 to 12 and was founded in 1970.
The project is a McGowan Government election commitment, and will complement the new science area recently opened at the school.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“It is essential that students are provided with the highest quality facilities and resources in all learning areas to help them master the skills and concepts they need for the jobs of the future.
“I’m sure Balga Senior High School students and the entire school community will welcome the new performing arts centre and STEM upgrades and the opportunities they will create in years to come.”
As stated by Mirrabooka MLA Meredith Hammat:
“Good things are happening at Balga Senior High School. The staff are doing a fantastic job of delivering a range of educational opportunities for their students, and these new facilities will see that offering grow.
“Young people are our community’s future and the McGowan Government is committed to ensuring that our local public schools offer students the best learning opportunities possible.”
