Shoalhaven City Council would like to remind road users to obey the yellow edging lines painted on some roads across the region, indicating a no stopping zone.
Yellow edging was implemented in the Shoalhaven in 2018 and is slowly being implemented in other Local Government Areas across the State. Yellow no stopping lines were included in the 1999 Australian Road Rules and written into the NSW Road Rules legislation in 2008, however, have not always been implanted in regions.
Shoalhaven City Council’s Road Safety Officer, Kym Snow, said the yellow lines are more durable, easier to maintain and do not conflict visually with road signs.
“Yellow edge lines are there to keep traffic off soft road edges. Road users can cross these lines for up to 100 meters if they have broken down, turning off onto a road, turning left at intersections or driving a slow-moving vehicle.” Mrs. Snow said.
“Unbroken yellow lines indicate a no stopping zone and you must not stop for any reason except an emergency. Broken yellow lines indicate a clearway zone and will have a sign clearly displaying when motorists can and cannot stop.” Mrs. Snow said.
NSW Police Force and Council Parking rangers will enforce this road rule if motorists do not obey the yellow edging guides.
