Meet Blake Freeman
Winner Best Newcomer 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival
‘★★★★½’ Herald Sun
‘This guy is live and direct and has the easy, candid demeanour of a man born to be a comedian.’ Herald Sun
‘Funny, likeable… spins a yarn with air.’ Adelaide Advertiser
‘Blake Freeman might be the find of the lot. With a cathartic rant about a past relationship, a blue but complex tale of sexual adventure and a winning energy, he capped off the hour to roars and cheers.’ Herald Sun
Meet Brett Blake
Brett Blake has had and lost every job under the sun. He’s been a forklift driver, stunt man, fisherman, deep sea diver, sandwich artist, teacher and underwear model to name a few.
His favourite and most important part of the working day is… Smoko.
Brett’s had another wild year, including turning down a role on the TV show Tiger King.
Fuel up on a choccy milk and a meat pie, and book ahead to see one of Australian comedy’s rising stars.
‘Raucous, side-splitting 60 minutes of laughs.’ Adelaide Advertiser
‘Punchy and relevant insight… peppered with clever jabs at Australian culture.’ The Age
Meet Prue Blake
Prue is the comedian for anyone that knows the game is rigged and thinks ‘well, why not find it funny?’
The voice of a generation? Maybe, though after years of sitting at the adult table she isn’t too sure which one. She is a strong, confident underachiever by choice … or she was before she became the 2020 RAW Comedy ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ champion.
Since 2018, she has taken over the comedy scene and can be seen on posters for all the hottest comedy shows both in Australia and internationally (one show in New Zealand).
Her style is observational, intelligent and cheeky. Prue has been described as both “dashing” and a “disillusioned feminist” by The Age
Meet Takashi Wakasugi
Japan’s quickest comedy import, Takashi returns to Melbourne Internationa Comedy Festval with his brand-new show.
Typical Japanese boy Takashi moved and got stuck in Australia. COVID-19 destroyed his comedy life. But he had a girlfriend. She is Australian and originally from Perth. He decided to move to Perth with her just before national lockdown. This was a very lucky decision because Western Australia was one of the safest places in the world. But in Perth he stayed at his girlfriend’s place with her parents. For nine months. Nine.
This show is about a Japanese boy living with an Aussie family together in Corona time. He experienced so many unknown and unexpected things in Australian family life. He had some wonderful times and tough times. His girlfriend broke up with him (of course). No government support. Could not see parents. But he still loves Australia. Big bow. Arigato.
‘Truly a show worth seeing and sure to lift your spirits. ★★★★½’ Everything Adelaide
‘You can’t help but fall in love with Takashi’s demeanour. ★★★★’ The Fourth Wall
‘Wakasugi is funny, clever and insightful. ★★★★’ ArtsHub
Meet Jay Wymarra
Jay is a formidable presence on any stage. Whether hosting, MCing, performing stand-up comedy, acting or gracing the stage as fabulous drag queen, “Rhianna Mation,” Jay is a crowd favourite.
He is a unique voice in the entertainment space and a staunch activist for the rights of people across all spectrums, and fandoms.
His writing career is growing which includes writing and directing several short films, sketches for GetUp! (In collaboration with Steph Tisdell where he performed an educational video to further the conversation around Australia Day and performed as all six characters), participating in writers rooms and joke passes for comedy scripts, a recent run at Laugh Out Proud for Mardi Gras 2021, and his whip-smart wit has seen his solo show “Torres Queer” performed throught Australia.
He has recently been spotted in a speaking role on ABC’s Rosehaven, narrating for The Ironing Maidens: A Soap Opera, and two turns at the Deadly Funny ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Grand Final at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
