The Australian Army’s annual Run Army fun run is about to triple in size, with the Queensland Police, Ambulance, and Fire & Emergency Services joining forces to create one super-sized community event, supported by RSL QLD.
Heading into its fourth year, Run Army has doubled in entrants every year for its 5K and 10K fun runs and walks.
Now, with the combined efforts of Army, Police, Ambulance and Fire and Rescue crews, the event is racing towards new records.
Run Army Chairman Major General (Ret’d) Jake Ellwood encouraged the community to sign up for the fun run.
“This will be a unique event for Brisbane; the chance to welcome the Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services teams into Run Army was too good to pass up,” MAJGEN Ellwood said.
“It is a massive boost for the event and for the Brisbane community. It’s a great way for Queenslanders to come together for a fun running event, with the people who commit their life to protect us.
“Run Army is a great way of saying thanks for the job they do, and to show support for their efforts on this special day, on the Sunday leading into Anzac Day.
“We invite the Brisbane and wider Australian community to join us in recognising the ANZAC spirit and push themselves physically and mentally alongside current serving soldiers, and our first responders from the Queensland Police, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance.”
Run Army has already raised over $500,000 in support of Legacy, with hopes of expanding this fundraising effort in support of charities supporting emergency services veterans and their families.
Entrants will be able to choose which of the four organisations they wish to support when they register.
Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said she was looking forward to supporting Run Army.
“The opportunity to join forces with the Australian Army in a community event was a no-brainer; the chance in 2024 to run alongside our community, with our veterans and serving soldiers while raising money for Queensland Police, Fire and Ambulance services’ Legacy causes is a great new tradition for the services,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“The benefits of walking and running are well known, that’s why Run Army was created. It’s about promoting resilience, health and wellbeing for everyone, for a stronger community. It’s an initiative that our emergency services are very strong supporters of.”
Run Army is on Sunday 21st April 2024 in Brisbane and offers runners the choice of a 5K or 10K run through the CBD and along the Brisbane River.
