Army’s display drew plenty of interest at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
5th Brigade soldiers attracted crowds with vehicles and equipment, and chatted about the opportunities and benefits available serving in the Army Reserve.
Leading the activity was Major Marcus Jones, of 5th Brigade’s recruiting cell, who said the stand was a big success.
“There’s been a lot of interest at the stand today,” Major Jones said.
“It’s been great seeing the kids’ faces light up with excitement when they see the Bushmaster PMV [protected mobility vehicle] and our soldiers in uniform.
“We’ve talked to a lot of young school-age adults about Army to given them a taste for what it’s like to be in the green.
“To get to touch and sit inside one of Army’s most well-known vehicles has been a new and exciting experience for a lot them.
“This is the second time I’ve supported this event and it’s great to see such a positive turnout.”
Private Peter Kim, a combat support clerk of 5th Brigade, said it was great to step out of an operational and unit setting and interact with the public.
“I’m a cloud engineer by day, but an Army Reserve soldier in my free time,” he said.
“Army has been a fun experience for me. It’s something different outside of what I’m used to doing in my day job.”
Despite his eventful work life, Private Kim remains steadfast in providing capability to Army, both in his specialist role and for tasks such as recruiting.
5th Brigade will next support the Tocal Field Day in the Hunter region in May.
