Detectives investigating the theft of approximately $1.7 million dollars’ worth of motor vehicles across the south east arrested a 32-year-old Brisbane man on Monday and charged him with 61 offences.
Police will allege the man and his four associates are linked to the theft of 47 vehicles and seven motorcycles during since February 2019.
Police established Operation Romeo Decree which includes a team of detectives, intel analysists and specialist support officers.
Police will allege vehicles and personal property were stolen from car parks and garages – many of which would be considered secure parking locations – on the Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Property stolen included motor vehicles, motorcycles, number plates, house keys, garage remote controls, smart phones and other personal property and jewellery.
The man was arrested by police around 9.30pm on Monday, May 27, at Springwood with police alleging he had $8500 in cash along with a quantity of stolen jewellery, a shortened firearm, ammunition and drugs (ICE methamphetamine and GBH gamma hydroxybutyric acid) with him.
The man has been charged with:
• 14 x enter premises and commit indictable offence
• 6 x burglary
• 7x unlawful use of a motor vehicle
• 4 x serious assault police officer
• 1 x dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• 1 x possess dangerous dug exceeding schedule 3 but less than 4
• 1x unlawful possession of a weapon category C
• 1x authority required to possess explosives (ammunition)
• 6x stealing
• 7 x receiving tainted property
• 1 x possess property suspect of being proceed
• 3 x possessed / displayed false registration plates
• 3 x drive motor vehicle disqualified by court repeat offender
• 4x drive motor vehicle without a licence repeat offender
• 1 x fail to comply with duties involved in a crash
He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 30.
A 26-year-old Brisbane woman was arrested at Woolloongabba on May 28 as part of Operation Romeo Decree. She has been charged with eight offences, including four counts of enter premises and commit an indictable offence, three counts of stealing and one of enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
She is due to re-appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 26.
To date a total of five people have been charged with 94 offences (including the man and woman) as part of Operation Romeo Decree with detectives expected to make further arrests and prefer additional charges.
