Northern Territory Police have arrested a 48-year-old male following a series of property-related incidents in the Darwin region.
On the morning of Sunday, 15 September, a vehicle was reported stolen from the Rapid Creek area. Later that day, the stolen vehicle was linked to property offences at bottle shops in Berry Springs and the Noonamah, where the suspect and co-offenders stole a small quantity of alcohol.
In the early hours of Monday, 16 September, police patrolling Stuart Park on an unrelated matter sighted the stolen vehicle. A traffic apprehension was attempted, but a brief pursuit was terminated due to the suspect’s dangerous driving, which included running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Moments later, members of the Strike Force Trident Unit located the vehicle stationary nearby. The 48-year-old suspect, who was the sole occupant and highly intoxicated, was arrested without further incident and taken to Palmerston Watch House.
Strike Force Trident is continuing investigations into additional property offences at local bottle shops in the days leading up to this incident, which are believed to be connected.
