Arrest – Stolen motor vehicle and pursuit – Jabiru

Northern Territory police have arrested two people in relation to a stolen motor vehicle and pursuit that occurred over the weekend.

Around 10:40pm Saturday, police were notified that a Hyundai Kona had allegedly been stolen by an adult male from a service station in Darwin City. General Duties attended the scene and Strike Force Trident later conducted investigations into the incident which included obtaining CCTV footage.

On Monday, Strike Force Trident received intelligence that the stolen vehicle was travelling outbound along the Stuart Highway before turning onto the Arnhem Highway heading east. A response was coordinated in conjunction with the Dog Operations Unit and Jabiru Police.

A tyre deflation device (TDD) was deployed in Marrakai which the offenders were able to evade with a pursuit then being initiated along the Arnhem Highway heading towards Jabiru. A second TDD was successfully deployed by Jabiru members with the vehicle coming to a stop approximately 50km outside of Jabiru.

A 26-year-old male driver and 23-year-old female passenger were arrested from the vehicle without incident.

The male driver was charged with multiple property and traffic offences while the female passenger was charged with property offences and domestic violence related offences.

Both offenders were remanded to face court today.

Police continue to urge those who witness a crime or anti-social behaviour to make contact on 131 444.
