Arrests – Domestic violence, community unrest and drug offences – Daly River Region

Northern Territory Police have charged multiple people with serious offences committed throughout the Daly River Region.

Overnight, members from Drug and Organised Crime apprehended a Toyota Land cruiser on the Port Keats Road. Drug Detection Dog Rambo located 3.6kg of cannabis and a large quantity of cash within the vehicle.

The cash, drugs and the vehicle were seized and the 29-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with:

  • Supply schedule 2 dangerous drug commercial quantity
  • Possess schedule 2 dangerous drug commercial quantity
  • Possess property commission of offence

The arrest comes after recent disturbances throughout the Daly River Region which have seen instances of community unrest, unlawful entries, stolen motor vehicles and domestic violence.

Earlier this week, additional resourcing was deployed into the area, including the Territory Response Group (TRG), detectives from Crime Command and officers from surrounding areas.

Since Tuesday 5 September, Peppimenarti members, with assistance from the TRG, have arrested 10 males in relation to these disturbances.

A 20-year-old-male has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault x 3
  • Engage in conduct that contravenes a Domestic Violence Order x 2
  • Unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Drive manner dangerous
  • Drive unlicensed

An 18-year-old male was charged with:

  • Unlawful use of motor vehicle x 2
  • Stealing
  • criminal damage x 2
  • Breach of bail

A 25-year-old male was arrested for 2 outstanding warrants and charged with breach of bail.

All were remanded to appear in Wadeye Local Court today.

Another 18-year-old male has since been released pending further investigations into the unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The remaining 6 alleged offenders were all arrested this morning and currently remain in police custody.
