Police have arrested two youths after a series of burglaries across East Auckland earlier in the week.
Both offenders have been charged with three counts of burglary and vehicle related offences.
Inspector Rachel Dolheguy, Acting Area Commander Auckland City East, says Police have been investigating after three commercial premises were targeted in the space on one hour in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police were initially called to a burglary at a petrol station on Meadowbank Rd, Remuera just after 1.30am on 3 April.
Offenders allegedly broke in and attempted to steal the cash tills and cigarettes, but were unsuccessful.
The same people have then smashed the doors to a building in Morrin Rd, Saint Johns and taken unknown items.
Police then received reports of a burglary at a commercial premises in Queens Rd, Panmure just after 2am. A vehicle was to gain access to the store and took a number of items. The vehicle used was recovered at the scene.
Inspector Dolheguy says the quick arrest demonstrates Police’s ongoing commitment to ensuring those responsible for retail crime will be brought to justice.
“I hope these arrests provide reassurance to the community that those who offend will be held to account,” she says.
Both youths have since appeared in the Auckland Youth Court.
