The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Contemporary Jewellery Award, staged every two years by Griffith Regional Art Gallery, is now inviting entries from contemporary jewellery practitioners across Australia.
The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Contemporary Jewellery Award (NCJA) is a national acquisitive prize that showcases the unique and innovative creations of some of the country’s finest artisans and jewellers across Australia.
The NCJA was founded in 1992 by Griffith City Council as a showcase for contemporary jewellery and to develop the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Contemporary Jewellery Collection, now housed at the Gallery. The prize has two awards. A $5,000 cash prize and acquisition into the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Contemporary Jewellery Collection, and the Design Excellence Award – a cash prize of $1,000.
Manager of Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Margaret Andreazza said “We are pleased to again invite the contemporary jewellery fraternity of Australia to be part of this significant exhibition showcasing Australia finest artists and crafts-people engaging the contemporary jewellery and design. We’ve had some amazing entries over the past 30 years and we are looking forward to seeing what this year’s entrants have to offer.”
Judges for this year’s event are Dr Rohan Nicol, Head of Discipline – Art at the University of Tasmania and Leeanne Santoro, Curator of Sharing the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Collection at the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
Griffith Regional Art Gallery Coordinator, Ray Wholohan said: “We are privileged to have judges of this calibre for the 2024 ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Contemporary Jewellery Award. Both have vast experience and a unique understanding of Australia’s contemporary jewellery practice, and our collection.”
Ms Andreazza wished the contemporary jewellery community luck with the 2024 award.
“Entry forms and award terms and conditions can now be found on our website and Facebook page. This includes critical information and dates for this upcoming award. If you need further information, please make contact with one of the Gallery staff,” she said.
The finalists in the awards will be showcased during the NCJA Exhibition at the Gallery, to be held from 9 November this year. Winners will be announced during a gala opening event on Friday 8 November 2024.
