Hornsby Shire Council is offering artists $11,000 in total prize money − and the chance to have their artworks exhibited at Hornsby’s Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre – as part of the 2022 Remagine Art Prize.

Hosted by Hornsby Shire Council in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society, the Remagine Art Prize focuses on sustainability and the environment.

This year, the Remagine Art Prize challenges artists to create works in response to the theme ‘Planet Earth: The future is Circular’.

The theme relates to the reduction of earth’s raw materials and to the reuse of these finite and precious natural resources.

The Remagine Art Prize is open to digital art – stills, sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, painting, drawing and printmaking.

The innovative Remagine Art Prize began in 2009.

There are six prizes to be won this year:

  • First prize: $5,000
  • Two Runner Ups: $,2000 each
  • Local Artist Award: $1,000
  • Youth Award (16-18 years): $500
  • People’s Choice Award: $500

The Local Artist Award is being offered for the first time this year, as a special incentive for residents of Hornsby Shire to enter the Remagine Art Prize.

“Over the past 12 years, it has evolved to become an art prize where artists can respond to the challenges we are all facing with waste, over-consumption, and the warming environment,” said Hornsby Shire Mayor, Philip Ruddock.

“Previous winners have dealt with such topics as the interrelationships between the natural marine environment and humans; and the impact on the environment by the fashion industry, among many other topics.”

Entries close on 2 May.
