Southern Grampians Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua White as Artistic Director of the Hamilton Gallery.
Joshua comes to the Southern Grampians Shire from Newcastle, has a Master of Creative Industries and has spent close to ten years working within the cultural sector on the east coast of NSW.
Early in his career, Joshua worked for Morpeth Conservation Company to restore, preserve and conserve a wide range of nationally and internationally significant artworks and artefacts. He also worked as a team member for Newcastle Art Gallery within the install and collection audit team. He then attained the position of technical officer and was the steward of the gallery’s prestigious collection and lead installation technician.
Joshua then went on to attain the position of Curator at Gosford Regional Gallery in 2015. Achievements from his time there include the development of significant national exhibitions and the extensive expansion of the gallery’s collection over a three-year period.
In 2018, he became Urban and Public Art Project Leader for Lake Macquarie City Council and worked on a multitude of large-scale cultural projects and long-term local government policy.
Joshua looks forward to being a part of the Hamilton Gallery team and working with the Southern Grampians community to deliver high quality cultural outcomes.
“I am extremely excited to work with such a progressive Council and to be the leader of a nationally recognised cultural facility. Hamilton Gallery has such an amazing collection and skilled staff, I’m privileged to be working with this team.
“I look forward to engaging the community by developing local, national and internationally significant exhibitions and programs. Expanding our reach beyond the Gallery walls with online content, public art and cultural projects is something I’m also really hoping to achieve,” Mr White said.
Southern Grampians Shire Council CEO Michael Tudball said Council were pleased to have Joshua on board.
“We are thrilled to have attracted someone of Joshua’s calibre to the Southern Grampians Shire. We’re looking forward to working with Joshua to grow and leverage from the Gallery’s deserved reputation and further develop arts and culture within our region and beyond,” Mr Tudball said.
Joshua moves to the region with his wife and young family and are they excited about exploring all that the Greater Hamilton region has to offer. He commenced in the role on Tuesday 14 April.
