Council’s annual performing arts program is coming to a close for 2019 but there is still time to catch a great show right in our own backyard.
Arts, Culture and Tourism Portfolio Holder Councillor Colleen Gates said Council’s Arts at your Doorstep program will culminate with the winner of the 2018 Drama Victoria Award – This is Eden. The performance tells the story of convict life at the Cascades Female Factory in Hobart Tasmania in 1839 and parodies our dark past and the way we perceive it.
“Each year Arts at your Doorstep provides a wonderful program with plenty to mark on the calendar,” said Cr Gates.
“This Is Eden sounds like it is not to be missed, especially for people interested in history, drama, and the role of women in retelling our diverse stories.
“And of course the Altona Theatre remains a gem for us here in Hobsons Bay.”
This acclaimed performance will close the 2019 season but before the red curtain comes down, children will enjoy a special day time show with The Mudcakes at the recently restored Old Laverton School in Altona Meadows.
“Continuing on with our commitment to family-friendly music, our younger residents will be jumping and jiving for joy when much-loved children music specialists The Mudcakes bring their unique brand of performance, complete with singalongs, yoga, instruments and dance,” continued Cr Gates.
“Hobsons Bay is certainly cementing itself as a Creative City and we are proud to support cultural experiences and innovation while building a strong, creative, diverse community that we can all enjoy.”
