The CLP Government has no plans to put the Darwin Esplanade on the heritage list after the Supreme Court overturned the previous government’s provisional heritage listing of the site.
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment Joshua Burgoyne said the CLP Government recognised the importance of the preservation of our vibrant and most loved spaces, “as well as the significance of responsible development to improve our unique NT lifestyle for all Territorians.”
“Chansey Paech’s decision could have threatened much loved events such as the Greek GleNTi, and existing businesses at Doctors Gully,” said Mr Burgoyne.
“This is yet another Labor mess the CLP is cleaning up.
“Labor need to explain why they thought it was OK to spend more than $240,000 of taxpayers’ money on legal proceedings fighting the case, which lasted more than 18 months.
“The decision by Labor’s Chansey Paech was irrational, and costly.
“The CLP Government has no intention of pursuing this matter any further as it is up to City of Darwin to make informed decisions regarding their land.”
