Child Abuse Squad detectives have charged two people, including a Doctor (General Practitioner), in relation to the alleged attempted murder of a 6-year-old girl.
It will be alleged a family member of the child attended a GP clinic in the Great Southern region on Monday 17 January 2022. It will be further alleged that person left the appointment with a prescription from the GP in order to be able to access a drug to be used to end the child’s life, and that the GP was aware of the intended use of the drug.
On Wednesday 19 January 2022 another family member took the child to a local medical facility due to the child being unwell, before taking her to Albany Hospital where she was stabilised and transferred via Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth Children’s Hospital. It will be alleged the child’s health had deteriorated as the result of being administered the drug that had been sought.
On Friday 28 January 2022 a 40-year-old woman, who is related to the child, was arrested by Child Abuse Squad detectives. She was charged with ‘Attempted Unlawfully to Kill’ and was refused bail. The woman appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday 29 January 2022 and is next due to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday 16 February 2022.
On Wednesday 2 February 2022, Child Abuse Squad detectives arrested the GP. The 47-year-old man was charged with ‘Attempted Unlawfully to Kill’. He was refused bail and appeared in the Albany Magistrates Court yesterday, Thursday 3 February 2022. He is next due to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday 16 February 2022.
